How category-exclusive advertising works

When several businesses in the same category share a mailing, each offer competes for the same household's attention and the value of every placement drops. Category exclusivity solves this by giving each advertiser a clear, uncontested position on the card.

Each edition publishes a directory of possible business categories. A business requests the category it wants, and the publisher approves the final assignment. Some businesses could reasonably fit more than one category — for example, a limousine company might fit 'Limousine or Car Service' or 'Wedding Transportation' depending on its primary offer. The publisher assigns the single most accurate category.

• The category is marked unavailable for that edition.
• No other business in that category can reserve or pay for it.
• The advertiser holding it is counted toward the edition's limited number of spaces.
• The same category may still be available in a different edition.

Every Jersey Local Offers edition is limited to 16 advertising spaces, with one business per approved category. A category is only considered taken once it is reserved and paid — an inquiry or pending approval does not lock the category. You can check availability for your category before committing.
